We usually think that a typical Botox patient is a middle-aged woman looking forward to reducing those inevitable signs of aging from her face. However, plastic surgeons are saying that “brotox” or the use Botox by males is growing in popularity.

In the decade spanning years 2000 and 2010, statistics have shown that the increase in male patients undergoing Botox treatments has increased to a whopping 258%. This number is according to the ASPS. As a matter of fact, there were a higher number of men who selected Botox over other forms of cosmetic enhancements during 2010. It was found that more than 330,000 men underwent Botox injections in order to enhance their looks.

Men usually use Botox in order to eliminate a furrowed brow that makes most of them look angry. Majority of men claim that wrinkles between the eyebrows and forehead are what bother them most. Men also tend to ask for spot treatments for easing out specific facial imperfections compared to women who prefer to have a complete rejuvenation.

Men are known to prefer more subtlety compared to women, which means that they want to get rid of furrows in their forehead without compromising their ability to show normal facial expressions. Another reason why Botox is preferred by men is that the effects are tentative, which is said to last around 3 to 4 months. The procedure is reversible and in case a person has a complication, it won’t last forever unlike surgery.

Botox treatment typically costs between $200 and $300 for men. Typical complications include small bruises or red bumps where the shots are made, which are said to lighten quickly. The shots reveal results in around 4 or 5 days and some men have to go back to their doctor for a retouch in case one side of the face responded differently than the other.
